My Story Mini Book - SNR Magazine

Ribbon: Offray

Ink: Ranger
Glaze: JudiKins
Pen: Martha Stewart, Zig
Other: Brad, Chipboard
Mini Book Template: JAnn B Designs

I'm sharing a mini book that I created for the Webster's Pages sponsored event at Scrapbook News and Review Magazine.  The adage "a picture is worth a thousand words" is deceptively comforting to me, and many times, I am able to convince myself that a single still image is a sufficient means to preserve my memories.   As time passes and my memories fade, I realize that without journaling of some kind, the stories of events that I treasure the most will go with me, leaving future generations with nameless faces and forgotten times.
Documenting several years of a life does not have to comprise several volumes or require a painstaking amount of time to complete.
This mini book measures less than three inches square and contains some of my favorite stories and memories from the first 25 years of my life. I have included stories from the day I was born, my wedding day, my first home and the births of my children. I also highlight some of my favorite memories about friends, pets, and school, as well as my plans and hopes for the future. With six double-sided pages and eight pullout tags, this book holds a lot of information despite its small size.
The Webster's Pages All About Me Collection is one of my all-time favorites and I have many more layouts and a card to share sometime soon.  Thanks for stopping by today!

Winterland: Below Zero (WN-1333)
Winterland: Let It Snow (WN-1332)
Winterland: Cardstock Sticker (WN-2234)

Branches: Recollections, Webster's Pages
Glimmer Screens: Tattered Angels
Snowflake Punch: EK Success
Mist: Studio Calico

I'm sharing a fun, frosty page today created with the new Moxxie Winterland line.  I love this collection!  The patterns are soft and beautiful and there are several wonderful shades of blue present on the papers and embellishments.  Several of the patterned papers also include subtle shades of green, pink and purple, so those colors could also be paired with these papers.

I used some Glimmer Screens as stencils to make the large snowflakes and icicles.  I added some punch-outs and stickers and some "icy" embellishments to finish my layout.  The Studio Calico mist in Calico White adds a wonderful frosty finish to my page.  Visit the Moxxie Blog for more Winterland inspiration.

I'm sharing a bright and fun layout for Your Memories Here today.  This fabulous yellow striped patterned paper is one of the B-sides from the Pink Paislee Nantucket collection.  It's not often that I use yellow in my projects, but I love this paper, especially paired with pink, purple and teal.  I took a detour to Butterfly World on a recent vacation and besides the amazing butterflies there, these fragrant flowering passion vines were my favorite.

I colored a piece of Pink Paislee Mistables Paper with Distress Ink in Milled Lavender and Dusty Concord.

Be sure to stop by the Your Memories Here Store and visit the Pink Paislee section. Also available are the London Market, Spring Jubilee, Indigo Bleu and Declarations collections!

This gorgeous color palette is part of the July Challenge at Flourish With A Bling.  I used the Jack, Olive Green Vine.

Ink, Perfect Pearls: Ranger
Mist: Tattered Angels
Embossing Folder: Provocraft

This month Scrap It With A Song is featuring songs chosen by our wonderful Design Team members! The song on the playlist this week is "Every Girl Like Me" by Sugarland. I had a lot of fun creating this artist trading card.  I picked several items mentioned in the song lyrics and added them to this piece.  I reused an empty coffee bag for the foil background and cut a barcode from the bottom of a cereal box.  Other lyrics that inspired me were "secret," "favorite song" and "key." The Rock Chicks would love to see how you interpret this song! Song Lyrics: Shawn Mullins

I recently went on a road trip and was listening to Shawn Mullins' 9th Ward Pickin' Parlor while driving.  All of the songs are fabulous, but "Faith" is especially beautiful, and inspired this page.  I try not to let a lack of photos stop me from creating when my mojo hits.  The Moxxie Faith collection was perfect to highlight these lyrics. A while back, Moxxie released a very popular Faith line, and due to customer requests, they've added to it! I used some of the new papers from the May 2012 release here. These new papers coordinate with the previous Moxxie Faith and Nativity lines, giving you a larger assortment of patterns and embellishments to choose from to create your projects!

The cross was my favorite element from the patterned papers so I chose to highlight that in a cluster of flowers and rhinestones.  I added "rays of light" with a fine-tipped paintbrush and some gesso.

Thanks for stopping by today! Visit the Moxxie Blog to check out the newest paper collections that debuted at CHA this week and be sure to visit the Moxxie facebook page for more inspiration from the Moxxie Muses.

My daughter is having her birthday party today at Darling Divas Nail Salon & Spa for Girls.  She is so excited to be pampered with some of her girlfriends!  I could not find goodie bags anywhere so I thought it would be fun to get out some craft supplies and Momenta papers and decorate my own.  I reach for the Free To Be Me Paper Pad time and time again for my girly projects. I don't measure anything when I'm crafting and always end up with a pile of thin paper strips at the end of my scrap sessions.  Rather than toss the scraps, I put them to use on these tags.

One of my finished goodie bags.  Not only is this bag totally cute, it's also reusable as the topper is held to the bag with a simple jute bow that was run through some punched holes.  Thanks for visiting today!  Stop by the Momenta facebook page for more inspiration from the D-Lite Team.

Momenta is having a week full of fun and prizes on their facebook page! Each day Momenta will be posting one presentation showing 4-5 designs each. Give the designs a thumbs up or down. After you review the presentation, just leave a comment on the survey thread and on 7/25 Momenta will select a random winner!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of taking Anna Dabrowska's Mixed Medium Album Class and I'm sharing my album cover and some of the pages today for Your Memories Here.  This class was AMAZING.  Anna is such a sweetheart and I learned so much.  This was my first time working with the Prima Mixed Media Book Covers and Album, and I absolutely love them.

I had a lot of fun layering canvas letters, embellishments and an old guitar amp tube (courtesy of my husband) and topping that with a couple of layers of mist, glaze, gel medium and gesso for my album cover.

Here is the back of my album and a close-up of my embellishment cluster.

I created several album pages during the class.  I learned how to build layers using paper scraps, strips of fabric, gesso, mist and tea.

The patterned papers and embellishments are from the Prima Almanac collection.  The pinks and oranges are perfect for soft, romantic pages.  These two pages were built on cardstock and then glued to watercolor pages, both of which are included in the Prima album kit.

Once my background was built up, I added pieces of patterned paper, stickers, stamping and my photo.  The light brown drips, splashes and rings are from tea.

I built this page on a piece of the resist canvas.  This page was colored with a mix of mists and Distress Stains.

Thanks for visiting today! Stop by again next Friday to see more pages from this album.  If you want to try creating your own mixed media album, stop by the Your Memories Here Store and pick up what you need.  It's also time for Prima Pre-Orders!  If you have your eye on 1, or 7, of the new Prima collections, get your order in now for a significant savings.  Grab Bags are available again in 3 sizes.

I love the new metal sticker line from Momenta!  When I saw the giant display at Michael's I couldn't resist buying a couple of packages.  The owl and pocket watch stickers caught my eye right away.  I'm so ready for the cool, crisp weather and beautiful colored leaves of Fall, so I thought a fall-themed tag would be fun to create.

This is what my metal stickers looked like before I added them to my tag.  There are dozens of different designs available.

Dogs ATC - SNR Magazine

Supplies:
ATC Base: Ranger
Patterned Paper: Glitz Design
Letters: Glitz Design
Film Strip Ribbon: Tim Holtz
Pen: Sharpie
Other: Crayons, Staples

I created this artist trading card for Scrapbook News and Review Magazine.  The call was cinema and I thought it would be fun to create an ATC inspired by one of my favorite films.  I'm a big Quentin Tarantino fan and I love the movie Reservoir Dogs.  I took inspiration from this movie poster:

I've always wanted to create something with melted crayons.  After playing with both my heat gun and hairdryer, I found that my preferred melting tool was the hairdryer.  The heat gun was too hot and almost instantly turned the crayons into pools of wax, which wasn't the look I was going for.  The Tim Holtz Film Strip Ribbon was the perfect finishing embellishment.

If you're looking for some mixed media inspiration, pick up a subscription to SNR Magazine and check out the Mixed Media section. Look for the August Calls soon and submit your artwork for a real chance at being published.

Patriotic Placeholder - Moxxie

I have a partiotic project to share today that I created with Moxxie's fabulous Hometown Celebration collection, a festive and fun placeholder with a surprise inside. I found a package of party favor boxes from The Gift Wrap Company in the clearance section of one of my favorite stores. These boxes had a unique design with a star shaped closure on the top. I immediately thought of the Fourth of July holiday and wanted to make something special using these boxes as a template.

Supplies:
1 Sheet Star-Spangled (HC-1211) Patterned Paper
1 Sheet Yankee Doodle (HC-1214) Patterned Paper
Party Favor Template
Toothpick
Yarn
Computer-Generated Names and Messages
 Cupcake Papers
 Red, White and Blue Candies
Scissors
Adhesive
 Pen

Step One: Trace around the party favor template onto a piece of the Star-Spangled patterned paper. Carefully cut the shape from the patterned paper. Note: One sheet of 12x12 paper will make two placeholders.

Step Two: Using the party favor template as a guide, score the patterned paper along the same lines. Add adhesive to the bottom edge of the rectangular flap, around the edges of the hexagon flap and down the right edge of the placeholder.

Step Three: Fold the bottom flaps up and in and press down to secure them to the hexagon flap. Press the two side flaps together.

Step Four: Print and cut into strips a computer-generated message for your party guests. Place the message, along with some red, white, and blue candy into a cupcake paper and place inside the placeholder box.

Step Five: Pinch each top flap together and fold into the center of the placeholder to close the box.

Step Six: Cut a star from the Yankee Doodle patterned paper.

Step Seven: Attach the star to the top of a toothpick. Add a name pennant to the toothpick. Cut a piece of yarn and tie in a bow around the bottom of the toothpick. To finish, insert the toothpick into the center of the top of the placeholder.

These festive placeholders are sure to be the star of any patriotic party! Swap the patterned paper and use this placeholder for a variety of occasions. I decided to keep the design of my box simple, but there is plenty of room to add embellishments to the outside of the placeholder.

Thanks for stopping by today! If you find inspiration in this or any other project created by one of the Moxxie Muses, be sure to share your creation with us on the Moxxie facebook page.

Wow Face - Your Memories Here

Supplies:
Paper: Pink Paislee
Stickers: Pink Paislee
Butterfly: Prima
Stamp: Tim Holtz
Ink: Ranger
Pen: Sharpie
Other: Twine, Staples

I created this layout for Your Memories Here Designs using the Pink Paislee Declaration collection and one of my favorite photos from our Fourth of July celebration this week.  I just love the expression on my daughter's face as she watched our backyard firework display!  With coordinating patterned papers, letters and sticker embellishments, the Declaration kit made putting together this layout super easy!  I added some stamping with a Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stamp and some Distress Ink.  The butterfly I used on this page came in my Prima Grab Bag.  I rounded off this page with a little doodling.

Be sure to stop by the Your Memories Here Store and visit the Pink Paislee section. Also available are the Nantucket, Spring Jubilee, Indigo Bleu and London Market collections! If you're running low on embellishments from the last Prima release, there are still Winter Grab Bags available in 3 different sizes in the YMH Store.

Just Craft ATC - SNR Magazine

How do you like your eggs? After this fun project, I can say 'on my artist trading cards!' The crushed eggshells add a wonderful crackled design and they take color well.

Supplies:
ATC base
Eggshells
Mist
Gesso
Glaze
Glue
Paintbrush

Step One: Brush a light coat of gesso onto an ATC base and set aside to dry. Note: If you would prefer the cracks between the eggshells to be a darker color than the mists, try covering the ATC base with a coat of dark paint.

Step Two: Cover the ATC with a layer of glue and press the eggshells onto the surface of the ATC. Note: Clean the eggshells before applying them to the ATC by boiling a pot of water, removing the pot from heat and soaking the eggshells for several hours. This process will sterilize the shells and aid in the removal of the inner membrane from the eggshells. The inner membrane must be removed from the eggshells or they will not adhere to the glue.

Step Three: Spray the ATC with a liberal coat of mist in several colors.

Step Four: Cover the ATC with a layer of glaze. Once dry, embellish to finish.

Here's a close-up of the eggshell background.  The Radiant Rain mists really catch the light and adding a fabulous sparkle to this piece.

Supplies: ATC Base: Ranger; Stickers: American Crafts; Mist: Creative Imaginations; Glaze: JudiKins; Ink: Ranger; Other: Eggshells, flower
