Happy - Pion Design

Hi! I created this layout for Pion Design. My cherry blossom tree is in full bloom right now. I wait all year long for the short couple of weeks when my front yard is fragrant and awash with pink petals. I was inspired to create a layout with the beautiful Cherry Blossom patterned paper from the Easter Greetings collection to help celebrate Spring.

I started this page with a pink watercolor swirl and some pink ink splatters. I then piled on ribbon, chipboard, patterned paper and flowers.

I used a die and a 6x6 piece of patterned paper to create the title. I absolutely love to finish my layouts with some Pion Design butterflies.

Thanks for stopping by today and think Spring!

Don't Miss This Arch - Tando Creative

Hi! I'm sharing the arch that I created for the Spring Has Sprung theme this week on the Tando Creative Design Blog. This small arch is another one of the inner cut arches from the Triple Arch Layered Frame. I love to use the inner cut pieces from Tando designs for additional projects. This layered frame comes with 9 inner cut arches, so I still have plenty of pieces to work with. I'm enjoying the emergence of Spring and the colorful buds that are beginning to open in my garden. My girls and I are enjoying the abundance of caterpillars that seem to be absolutely everywhere and are looking forward to the fluttering of butterfly wings. This small piece represents this joyous time of year.

I covered this arch with patterned paper, chalk ink, embossed stamping, and white ink splatters to add some depth. I then colored a Mini Butterfly, Flower with Stem, and a small piece of Grass Flexistrip with chalk ink for a soft finish. Lastly, I applied a light coat of Smooch Glitz for a bit of shimmer.

You can find the products that I used for this piece in the Tando Creative Retail Store! We'd love to see what you create for our Spring Has Sprung Challenge! To be in with a chance of winning some great Tando goodies of your choice, please make a piece based on our weekly themes and link your project, not just your blog, using the inlinkz tool located at the top of the Tando Blog. You don't have to use any Tando product, but, if you do, you will be entered into the draw twice! There are no limits to how many times you enter, however, we do request that you only enter your piece for 5 challenges. We look forward to seeing your creations!

Under The Sea Mixed Media Board - Tando Creative

Hi! I'm sharing an under water themed Mixed Media Board for the Watercolor Theme this week on the Tando Creative Design Blog. I'm longing for Summer and the warmer months so I was inspired to create this fun beachy board. I painted a Mixed Media Board with acrylic and watercolor paints and then used the Long Flourish Mask to add a light aqua swirl over the top of the blue base to help create depth. I added some texture to the border of the board with some chunky blue embossing powder.

I used the top layer from the Oval/Teardrop Jewelry Design to replicate a piece of coral. The bright orange fish is one of a pair from the Boat Hanging. I finished this piece with some mini paper flowers, clear stickers, shells, a rub-on and some doodled bubbles. I'm ready to hit the beach!

You can find the products that I used for this piece in the Tando Creative Retail Store! We'd love to see what you create for our Watercolor Challenge! To be in with a chance of winning some great Tando goodies of your choice, please make a piece based on our weekly themes and link your project, not just your blog, using the inlinkz tool located at the top of the Tando Blog. Keepsake Box Guitar - Walnut Hollow

Keepsake Box Guitar by Dana Tatar for Walnut Hollow

Hi! I'm a Guest Blogger for Walnut Hollow today! I'm sharing how to create a box guitar from a Walnut Hollow Keepsake Box and Basswood Carving Block. Music and art are my two favorite hobbies. Music, and great lyrics, are a huge inspiration for a lot of my artwork. I had a lot of fun teaming up with my husband for this box guitar build and combining my love for music and art into one fun project. I modeled this piece after the primitive cigar box guitars. The earliest cigar box guitars were built from empty cigar boxes and one or two strings connected to a broomstick or wood slat. I improved on that rustic design by using a Walnut Hollow products as my main components. A handful of somewhat random metal hardware served as both functional and decorative finishings. I'd love to have you stop by the Walnut Hollow blog for a more in-depth look.

This box guitar is perfect for little hands, and is as fun to play as it is to look at, making this instrument fun for the whole family! We created a short video of my husband playing the guitar.

Get the box to make this project NOW from the Walnut Hollow store! Hurry! Offer ends soon.

Stamped and Stitched Embroidery Hoop Art - Clearsnap

Stamped and Stitched Embroidery Hoop Art by Dana Tatar for Clearsnap
Ink for this project provided by Clearsnap.

Hi! I'm up on the Clearsnap blog today sharing a colorful embroidered art project. I absolutely love embroidered art. Much of the designs that catch my eye are way beyond my limited skill set, but I didn’t let that stop me. I used ink and stamps to add more personality to a store-bought embroidered napkin. Filling up the white space in my piece with colorful stamping was a real time-saver and great alternative to stitching. How much of this design did I stitch by hand? How exactly did I use stamps on this piece? Is there ink designed specifically for fabrics? I answer all of these questions and share the step-by-step tutorial and some of my design tips on the Clearsnap blog.

I’m so happy with how this semi-handmade project turned out! As a fun variation, try using Smooch Accent Ink to paint a design onto the embroidery hoop, or wrap it with ribbon. Easter and Mother’s Day is fast approaching. A similar piece with a stitched bunny, religious symbol, monogram, or a stitched “Mom” would make a wonderful gift or piece of home decor!

If you love embroidery hoops, but would rather not get out the needle and thread, check out these other project tutorials that use ink instead:

ColorBox Blends Embroidery Hoop Orbs - I’ve seen embroidery hoops all over Pinterest and I’ve been inspired to create with them. This colorful bowl of orbs started out as raw wood embroidery hoops. I stained these hoops with some of my favorite shades of ColorBox Blends by Eileen Hull and ColorBox Crafter’s Ink by Ann Butler.

Stamped Fabric Wall Art - The ColorBox Background Basics by Ann Butler range of quilt-themed stamps helped me to create a beautiful homespun background for my project in no time at all! This small 4-inch piece of art was quick and easy to put together with Clearsnap inks and stamps and a few basic supplies.

Clearsnap Supplies:
ColorBox Crafter's Cat's Eye Ink Pads: Berry, Limelight, Ocean Breeze, Spiced Plum, Sunshine
ColorBox Erasable Fabric Ink Pad
Stamps from Paper Wings Productions: Flourish Fun 2, Valentine Wishes

Other Supplies: Embroidered Napkin, Embroidery Hoop, Embroidery Floss, Needle, Flowers, Hot Glue Gun, Scissors

Journey Arch - Tando Creative

Hi!  I'm sharing a small arch I created for the Color Theme this week on the Tando Creative Design Blog. This small arch is one of the inner cut arches from the Triple Arch Layered Frame. I love to use the inner cut pieces from Tando designs for additional projects. This layered frame comes with 9 inner cut arches, and I'm looking forward to creating a series of arches in a similar style.

I covered this arch with patterned paper and washi tape. I carefully applied some butterfly wings that a friend gifted me. I added color to the edge of the arch with blue chalk ink. I finished this piece with a button, for some dimension, and a layer of glaze.

You can find the products that I used for this piece in the Tando Creative Retail Store! We'd love to see what you create for our Color Challenge! To be in with a chance of winning some great Tando goodies of your choice, please make a piece based on our weekly themes and link your project, not just your blog, using the inlinkz tool located at the top of the Tando Blog. Smile Mini Layout - Gecko Galz April Challenge

Hi! I'm sharing the mini (6.5x8-inches) layout that I created for the Gecko Galz April Customer Challenge. The theme this month is Roses, Lace and Butterflies. I used the Rose Song Digital Paper from the Wild Roses Digital Paper Pack for the base of this page. The designs in this paper pack are all so beautiful, it was hard to choose which paper to use! I matted the sweet photo of my niece with the Pretty Maids Digital Paper from the Pocket Full of Posies Digital Paper Pack. I finished this page with a piece of lace, a small bouquet of roses and a gold butterfly charm.

We'd love to have you join the Gecko Galz Challenge this month! There is only one rule, and that is you need to use at least ONE product from Gecko Galz. It can be one of the free products, stamps, collage images, or digital papers. The winner will receive a $25 Gecko Galz Shopping Spree!

Live Today In All Caps - Clearsnap April Color Challenge

Live Today In All Caps Card by Dana Tatar for Clearsnap

Hi! I created this card for the Clearsnap April Color Challenge. I was inspired by both the color palette and the design elements in the collage for this card.

Clearsnap Supplies:
Ann Butler ColorBox Crafter's Ink - Blueberry
ColorBox Pigment Ink - Applemint
Teresa Collins Pigment Ink - Passion Pink
Teresa Collins Wood Mount Stamp - Live Today In All Caps

Step 1: Gently apply color from the ink pads listed above onto a craft mat or other slick surface. Mix the ink with a small amount of water and brush small squares of color onto a piece of white cardstock. Dry with a heat gun.

Step 2: Use a black pen to draw an outline around each colored square. Mount the colored paper onto a piece of blue cardstock, then a piece of green cardstock, and finally onto an A2 size blank kraft card.

Step 3: Cut a piece of 3x3-inch white cardstock. Apply Blueberry ink onto the Teresa Collins Live Today In All Caps Wood Mount Stamp and press the sentiment onto the cardstock. Mat the stamped sentiment onto a piece of pink cardstock. Place adhesive foam squares onto the back of the sentiment and attach to the left side of the card front.

Step 4: Color a chipboard fern with Applemint ink and dry with a heat gun. Glue the chipboard fern to the bottom right corner of the card and top with a pink felt flower.

Step 5: Secure a blue felt brad to the card front above the pink flower.

Step 6: Attach two metal jewels to the top right side of the card front.

What did you think? Will you try these techniques and this fab color combo? We’d love to see what you create – just leave a link in the comments on the Clearsnap blog to your project, on your blog or on Pinterest for a chance to win your choice of 2 ColorBox Queues. We'll randomly choose one winner from all of the entries and publish the winner's project on the Color Challenge post for the next month.
