You Are So Tweet Card - FabScraps

You Are So Tweet Card by Dana Tatar for FabScraps - Woodland Friends Collection - Acrylic Painted Chipboard and Hand-Stitched Accents

Hi! I created this card for FabScraps using their delightful new Woodland Friends collection. The dreary days of Winter have set in, but this colorful line has me thinking Spring! Several of the patterned papers have a stitched pattern and I thought it would be fun to highlight that design element with some hand-stitching over the top. I was thrilled to be able to create a colorful flower cluster that included purple leaves! The extensive chipboard range that is part of this collection made adding a sentiment to this card super easy. May 52 - Scraps of Darkness

May '52 Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness Kit Club - February Our Story Kit

I'm having such a fun time designing with the February Our Story Kit from Scraps of Darkness! The Prima Love Clippings Journaling Notecards (Main Kit) and the 6x6 Love Clippings Collection Kit (Creativity Add-On) really helps to stretch the 12x12 papers a bit further because I can cut up these smaller papers to help build up layers on my pages. I got creative with this page and created faux layers with border strips and bits and pieces from larger sheets of paper and my scrap pile. I even used some flower packaging under my photo.

How to Color Chipboard Letters with a Distress Ink Marker by Dana Tatar

I used an old photo of my maternal Grandfather, who I sadly never got to meet. It was dated May 1952 so I used that for the title of this layout. I colored the Kaisercraft chipboard letters with the Festive Berries Distress Marker from the Elements Add-On.

Gold Foil Rub-On Accents on a Romantic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I colored these pieces of Blue Fern Studios XOXO chipboard with the Distress Marker as well. I stamped over the background with the Ruby Rock-It Bella! Champagne Bubbles stamp from the Main Kit using the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On. I then staggered some fleur-de-lis accents from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons included in the Elements Add-On. This shimmer to this foil is amazing!

Flower Cluster on a Heritage Scrapbook Page by Dana Tatar - Prima and 49andMarket Flowers

I finished this page with some flowers from the Floral Add-On. I changed the look of the yellow flower by removing the flower center and using that as a separate smaller bloom. I replaced the flower center of the larger yellow flower with beads that I borrowed from a Prima Puccini flower.

Love Cork Artist Trading Card Set - Scraps of Darkness Video Tutorial

Video Tutorial for Love Theme Cork Artist Trading Cards by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness - February Our Story Kit

Hi! I'm sharing a set of artist trading cards I created for Scraps of Darkness using the February "Our Story" Kit. My favorite element from the Creativity Add-On is the cork sheet. I used cork for the base of my cards and then added stamping, both with ink and a hot tool, foil rub-ons, Distress Marker coloring, and acrylic paint. This versatile material took all these mediums well and adds a really fun texture to my cards.

Oh Happy Day - Scraps of Darkness

Oh Happy Day Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness - Blue Fern Studios Memoirs Collection

Hi! I'm sharing another layout that I created with the February "Our Story" Kit from Scraps of Darkness. The Blue Fern Studios Memoirs collection is so beautiful that I really didn't want to cover up too much of the paper! I found an older photo of my daughters that I thought would be a great way to highlight the natural elements present in the patterned paper design.

How to Accent Patterned Paper with a Distress Marker by Dana Tatar

I wanted to highlight some of the beautiful scroll patterns on the background. I used the Festive Berries Distress Marker from the Elements Add-On to trace over the design. This was also a great way to add a pop of color.

How to Burn a Stamped Image into Cork by Dana Tatar

My favorite item from the Creativity Add-On is the 12x12 Cork Sheet. The cork sheet is thin enough to cut with a paper trimmer. It also works great with punches! I cut the 12x12 sheet down to about 6x6 and then punched the edges. I wanted to keep the natural cork color, so I first stamped and then burned the design into the cork with a hot tool for a fun, more natural, design feature.

To help bring out some of the subtle reds and blues of this patterned papers, I brought in some red ribbon, and red and blue flowers from my stash. The variety of 49 and Market flowers and leaves from the Main Kit and Floral Add-On came together beautifully to create rustic flower clusters.

Journaling Card Title on a Romantic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

The Prima Love Clippings Journaling Notecards make great titles! I used one to create a title spot of this layout that I surrounded with fussy cuts, flowers, Distress Marker highlights, and stamping.

Rise and Burn Long Tag - Tando Creative

Watercolor Chipboard Sunrise Tag by Dana Tatar for Tando Creative

Hi! I'm sharing a long tag I created for the Anything Goes theme this week on the Tando Creative Design Blog. There are some days where I need just a little bit of extra motivation to get going and I think this tag will help a great deal.

Mixed Sticker Sentiment on a Watercolor Background by Dana Tatar

I primed a Long Tag with DecoArt White Gesso. I then added color with a mix of Tattered Angels products: Red-Orange Shimmers, Goldenrod Shimmers, Waterfall Glimmer Glaze, Turquoise Blue Glimmer Mist, and lastly a splattering of Chalk Chalkboard Mist. Once the color was dry I stamped a sun onto the bottom of the tag with watermark ink and then heat embossed Stampendous! Spoonful of Gold Dust on top. I used a gold paint pen to highlight the edges of the tag. I used a fun mix of black letter stickers to spell out a quote by William C. Hannan; The day will be what you make it, so rise, like the sun, and burn. I finished this piece by attaching a bright yellow tassel through the hole at the top of the tag.

You can find the chipboard I used for this project, and a wonderful selection of Stampendous and DecoArt products, in the Tando Creative Retail Store. We'd love to see your creativity! Share your work with us in Tando's Creative Zone on Facebook.

Cuteness - FabScraps

Cuteness Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar for FabScraps - Woodland Friends Collection

Hi! I created this layout for FabScraps using the new Woodland Friends collection. If you're looking for a fun paper line to help chase away the Winter blues, search no further!

Hand-Stitched Die-Cut Frames on a Whimsical Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I die-cut, stitched, and layered a colorful base for the photo on this page. I also included several inked and embossed chipboard pieces. There are so many fun elements in this collection that I wanted to highlight them all!

Multi-Color Embossed Chipboard on a Whimsical Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I already had my needle and floss out, so I thought it would be fun to stitch on the base of the page in addition to the patterned paper layers.

Loving Life - Scraps of Darkness

Loving Life Playful Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness Kit Club - February Our Story Kit

I'm sharing another layout that I created with the February Our Story Kit from Scraps of Darkness. There are a lot of repetitive elements in this kit that I love. In addition to the beautiful flowers there are also a lot of circles. I played up both of those elements on this page.

Peek-a-Boo-Photo and Patterned Paper Layering on a Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I had this adorable photo of my niece peeking over the edge of a table top that I just love for its playfulness. I decided to cut away the distracting background of the photo to really let her shine. I cut the floral collage sections from the top and bottom of the Prima Love Clippings - Little Love Clippings patterned paper and sandwiched my photo between them.

Fun with Circles on a Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout - Distress Markers, Gold Foil Rub-Ons, Dye Ink Stamping

I built up more layers under the photo from notcards, journaling cards, and fussy cuts from the Main Kit and Creativity Add-On. The Floral Add-On has a wonderful mix of colorful, textured, and glittered blooms that were so fun to mix and match on this page.

Circle Stamping and Gold Foil Circles Bubble Effect by Dana Tatar

I traced two large circles onto the base of this page with the Festive Berries Distress Marker from the Elements Add-On. To add more circles to this page I stamped over the background with the Ruby Rock-It Bella! Champagne Bubbles stamp from the Main Kit using the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On. I also added circles from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons included in the Elements Add-On. This shimmer to this foil is amazing!

Gold Foil Rub-On Title on a Romantic Style Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

Lastly, I added a title for this page, "Loving Life," also from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons.

Friends Keepsake Box - FabScraps

Owl Friends Altered Keepsake Gift Box by Dana Tatar for FabScraps - Whimsical Woodland Frinds Collection

Hi! I am absolutely in love with the new Woodland Friends collection from FabScraps! My girls like this line even more than I do, so I created them a little keepsake box the store some of their trinkets.

Colorful Acrylic Paint and Clear Stickers on a Gift Box by Dana Tatar

A simple coat of paint and a clear sticker transformed the wood base of this box from plain to pretty.

Multi-Color Embossing on an Owl Friend Chipboard Giftbox Lid by Dana Tatar

The lid of this box was thin, clear plastic, so I piled on the layers of patterned paper, cardstock, and chipboard to help add some strength.

Love Clippings ATC - Tando Creative

Love Clippings Artist Trading Card by Dana Tatar for Tando Creative

Hi! I'm sharing the artist trading card I created for the Love and Hearts theme this week on the Tando Creative Design Blog. I covered an ATC with a piece of patterned tissue paper and then added a small amount of DecoArt White Gesso with a spatula. Once dry, I added a couple drops of blue mist, a doodled border in red marker, some yellow string, a patterned paper sentiment, and a smudge of clear crackle medium.

I topped this piece with a heart that I wrapped in bright red floss.

Leo - Scraps of Darkness

Leo Mixed Media Cat Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness Kit Club

Happy Valentine's Day! I'm sharing another layout that I created with the February Our Story Kit from Scraps of Darkness, featuring the Prima Love Clippings collection. I snapped this photo of my Sister-In-Law's cat while I was home visiting over Christmas. I used the Prima Love Clippings All of Me Loves All of You patterned paper, B-Side up, for the base of this page.

Watercolor and Embossed Chipboard on a Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I love the distressed look of this patterned paper. I added more layers of color and texture in a similar fashion by using a spatula with the Dina Wakley Media Blushing Heavy Body Acrylic Paint from the Creativity Add-On, the Lindy's Stamp Gang Cocoa Bean Copper Starburst Mist from the Color Add-On, the Lindy's Stamp Gang Milk Chocolate Magical Shimmer Powder from the Main Kit, and the Blue Fern Studios Charred Bricks Glitter from the Elements Add-On that I mixed with clear crackle glaze to help stick. Once that was dry I stamped over the background with the Ruby Rock-It Bella! Champagne Bubbles stamp from the Main Kit and the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On.

The B-Side of the Deeply In Love patterned paper has wonderful journaling cards to cut apart. I used two of them on this page at the top and bottom of my page as an alternative to stamping. These cards were really fun to embellish! I colored the chipboard heart from the Blue Fern Studios XOXO Laser Cut Chipboard set with the Blue Fern Studios Garnet Embossing Powder from the Creativity Add-On.

I colored the Kaisercraft Chipboard Alphabet letters from the Main Kit with the Dina Wakley Media Blushing Heavy Body Acrylic Paint from the Creativity Add-On. Once that was dry I mixed the Lindy's Stamp Gang Milk Chocolate Magical Shimmer Powder from the Main Kit with water and dripped the solution onto the letters for a cool water-stained shimmery finish.

Mixed Media Background Techniques on a Romantic Shabby Chic Cat Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I colored the Blue Fern Studios XOXO chipboard with the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On. I tucked the chipboard between layers of patterned paper that I cut from the Journaling Notecards (Main Kit) and the 6x6 Love Clippings Collection Kit from the Creativity Add-On. These smaller paper pads really helped me stretch the life of my kit.

If you don't have a Scraps of Darkness subscription, the extra kits are going fast. You can pick up yours, and find out more about the club, at ScrapsofDarkness.com. Sweet Life - Scraps of Darkness

Sweet Life Mixed Media Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar for Scraps of Darkness

Hi! I'm sharing my first layout for Scraps of Darkness. I created this debut project with the February Our Story Kit and it is absolutely gorgeous! There are so many beautiful floral papers and sparkly accents to work with.

Paper and Embellishment Layering on a Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I've been holding on to this photo of my youngest niece for some time and was so happy to see how well it coordinated with this kit. I built up layers of journaling notecards, fussy cut papers, book pages, and product packaging (it matches this kit perfectly!) under my photos. I topped the photos with a mix of flowers from the Main Kit, Element Add-On, and Floral Add-On. I colored the small chipboard heart with embossing powder from the Creativity Add-On. The title for this page, "Sweet Life" is from the BoBunny Copper Accents Foil Transfers Rub-Ons, which I added under the photos.

Backround Stamping and Stenciling on a Shabby Chic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I used the stencil from the Elements Add-On with the Dina Wakley Media Blushing Heavy Body Acrylic Paint from the Creativity Add-On to add a colorful print to the background of my layout. I then added stamping with the fun Ruby Rock-It Bella! Champagne Bubbles stamp and the Prima Chocolat Dye Ink from the Color Add-On. Once that was dry, I added a light layer of whipped spackle over a text stencil for texture and dimension. Lastly, I sprayed the Lindy's Stamp Gang Cocoa Bean Copper Starburst Mist for a metallic accent. The shimmer of this mist is fantastic!

Painted Metal Heart Charm on a Romantic Scrapbook Layout by Dana Tatar

I altered the finish of the Papermania Ever After Wedding Heart Charm for this page from silver to gold with a layer of clear gesso and then gold paint.

DIY Heart-Shaped Izink Monoprint Pendants

DIY Heart-Shaped Izink Monoprint Pendants Tutorial by Dana Tatar
Some product supplied by Clearsnap and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L.

Hi! I'm sharing a love themed tutorial today that uses one of my favorite techniques; turning monoprints into resin paper and using those one-of-a-kind prints for jewelry and mixed media pieces. I wanted to create something special for my daughters for Valentine's Day, and they love jewelry. I've noticed that most of the offerings in their favorite stores are poorly made and a bit uninspired. I put my craft stash to good use with this project and I think I've come up with something a little more meaningful than a store-bought necklace that they will love to wear.

DIY Izink Monoprint Pendant Tutorial Supplies

Supplies:
1 - ColorBox Loved Creative Card
Clearsnap Designer Foils - Goldmine
ColorBox Archival Dye Ink by Stephanie Barnard - Cranberry, Candy, Bubblegum
Clearsnap Skinny Wood Mount Stamp - Little Love (Not Shown)
ColorBox Color Blender
Resin Monoprint (Tutorial and Supply List)
2 - Antique Gold Heart Pendants, Glass, and Chain
Adhesive Sheet
White Cardstock (Optional)
Glaze
Scissors
Marker (Not Shown)
Washi Tape (Not Shown)

Note: The supply list above does not include the supplies needed to create a resin monoprint. Please follow the link listed above for the resin monoprint tutorial and supply list.

The following tutorial can be completed in under an hour if you have a resin monoprint on hand. If not, please allow 24-36 hours to create this project.

DIY Izink Heart-Shaped Monoprint Pendant Heart Template Tracing by Dana Tatar

Step 1: Use a marker to trace the outline of the heart-shaped glass pendant covers onto a piece of resin paper. Optional: Also trace the outline of the heart-shaped glass pendant covers onto a piece of white cardstock. The resin paper is semi-transparent so to help the colors on the resin paper pop I backed each heart with a piece of white cardstock.

DIY Heart-Shaped Izink Monoprint Pendant Assembly by Dana Tatar

Step 2: Assemble the pendants, sealing each layer together with glaze. Let dry.

Dye Ink Blending on a Heart Print Card by Dana Tatar

Step 3: Cut a Colorbox Loved Creative Card in half. Cut that half card in half again to create two small cards. Use a Blending Tool to apply dye ink to the cards.

Gold Foil Application on a Card Using Adhesive Sheets by Dana Tatar

Step 4: Add a foil accent to each card. Cut a strip from an adhesive sheet to fit across the bottom of each card. Peel off the top protective layer from the adhesive sheet and place the sheet adhesive side down along the bottom of each card. Rub over the adhesive sheet to stick the adhesive to the card. Peel the backing off the adhesive sheet, exposing the adhesive. Place a sheet of Designer Foil, shiny side up, on top of the adhesive strip, press to transfer the foil, and then carefully lift up. Note: Clearsnap Designer Foils will work with any adhesive.

Step 5: Stamp the word love onto the top left corner of each card.

Step 6: Lay the pendants over the cards. Gather the excess chain and secure to the back of the card with washi tape.

Pretty Fast ATC - Tando Creative

Life Moves Pretty Fast Mixed Media ATC by Dana Tatar - Gelato Watercolor and Glitter Background on Stitcky-Back Canvas

Hi! I'm sharing a canvas-covered artist trading card that I created for the Add Fabric theme this week on the Tando Creative Design Blog. I love the ethereal quality of the backgrounds that can be created with canvas and Gelatos. I applied pink, purple, and yellow Gelatos to a craft mat, spritzed with water, and then pressed an ATC-sized piece of sticky-back canvas into the pool of color. I dried the canvas with a heat tool and then stuck it onto an Artist Trading Card. I sprinkled a layer of Stampendous Spoonful of Silver over the card and then glued on a piece of Round Grid waste that I colored with the same Gelatos for a fun textured layer. I finished this card with some yellow thread and a piece of flair.

You can find the chipboard I used for this project, and a wonderful selection of Stampendous products, in the Tando Creative Retail Store. We'd love to see your creativity! Share your work with us in Tando's Creative Zone on Facebook.
