I'm loving the new Clean & Simple Webster's Pages Collections. I have not yet purchased any of the new Clean & Simple collections, but I achieved a similar look by using the B-sides of the Webster's Pages papers that I currently have in my stash. I love the bright colors and fun patterns that are present on the B-sides of the Sweet Season Collection. Another bonus of using the B-sides of the patterned paper is that they are less themed, perfect for capturing everyday memories.

I added a touch of shimmer to a cupcake with some Distress Stickles in Spun Sugar.

I used Helmar Zapdots to adhere the embellishments to my page, adding some dimension.

One of my scrappy resolutions for this year is to organize my scrap space. My photo storage needed help in a big way and this altered photo holder was the perfect solution. Here's what my photo storage looked like before this project, a jumble of envelopes and a stack of loose photos.

Now my photos are organized by category in a pretty box, which is not only more pleasing to the eye, but makes finding the photo I want much easier! I made category dividers from patterned paper and labeled them with small paper clip tabs that are easy to slide around and relabel for future use.

When I read about the Sentimental Journey Vintage Valentine Challenge on the May Arts Blog, I jumped at the chance to participate. Bethney sent me a fabulous assortment of May Arts ribbons to work with. I made a small tote bag from muslin fabric and May Arts ribbon. I stitched pieces of ribbon into small folds of muslin fabric and then sewed my embellished fabric into a small tote bag. I just love the romantic ribbon ruffles!

I'm using this tote to hold a gift for a Valentine's Day present of vintage romance novels and chocolate.

I also made a card to go along with my gifts using a vintage BINGO card and some May Arts ribbon.

TGIF! I'm sharing a quick and simple Valentine's Day card using the Cosmo Cricket Garden Variety Collection for Your Memories Here. I just love the selection of red patterned papers in this package and thought they would make a great not-too-feminine card for my husband. I added some Ranger Distress Ink in Vintage Photo to the edges of my papers, as well as some Ranger Distress Stickles in Barn Door. For a little dimension I attached the bee to my card using a Helmar Zapdot. I finished the card with a button and some twine.

My girls were invited to a Hip Hoop Birthday Party! Hula hooping is super fun and not just for kids. I'm looking forward to bringing my hoop to the party to have a good time along with my girls! I made this card for the birthday girl. The Momenta Super Paper Pad helped me assemble my card in record time, as the patterned paper, embossed cardstock and letter stickers all came together in the same paper pad!

I love mini letter stickers and this pad comes with an entire 12x12 sheet of multi-colored letter stickers! Needless to say, I'm not going to be running out any time soon!

I'm excited to share my first project for Your Memories Here! I'm a big Webster's Pages fan. I just love the detailed designs featured in the Webster's Pages Collections. They're perfect for cutting and layering on projects. There are times when I want to create something small and fun, so rather than cutting into a full sheet of patterned paper, I use notecards or journaling cards. The Webster's Pages Notecards come printed with the same wonderful patterns as the patterned papers, only smaller, which makes them the perfect base for small projects such as cards, arches and ATCs.

I used one notecard for the base of my arch and cut the cherries, leaves and bird from another notecard. I folded and curled the leaves and flower petals to help add dimension to my arch. I also added some glaze to the cherries, which really helps the red color pop, and some Ranger Stickles to the flower centers.

I finished my arch with some lace and trim, Prima pearls and Ranger Distress Ink around the edges. If you haven't created arches, I hope I have inspired you to try something new!

Scrap It With A Song is back from the holiday break with a New Year Free For All Challenge this week! I chose "Don't Stop Me Now" by Queen, which is a great song and went well with this photo of my husband rocking out with his band. The song lyrics read:

I almost always use papers from the Basic Grey Obscure collection to make rock pages. I love the turn tables, cassette tapes and cables that are featured on this patterned paper. I didn't want to cover up too much of this paper so I only added a bit of paint and mist, simple and fun! I created this layout for the January Blog Challenge from Glitz Design. This layout was inspired by the photo shown below. I added many of the elements from the photo on my page including color, snowflakes and the garland, which I switched to a banner. I really love the frosty feel of the inspiration photo and tried to add the same touches to my page with the flowers I made from netting and the pearls. The cutie in the photo is my niece, who I met for the first time over the Christmas holiday. I really love the gray and blue for a feminine page!

This challenge ends on January 26, 2012 at 11:59pm. The top five, which includes the prize winner, will be highlighted on the blog on the Saturday following the contest end!

My word for 2012 is PERSEVERE; to persist in anything undertaken; maintain a purpose in spite of difficulty, obstacles, or discouragement; continue steadfastly. I made this frame to sit on my scrap desk, to remind me everyday not to give up.

I had a lot of fun making the background for this piece using mist and kosher salt. I love the effect the salt has when it mixes with the ink. I used letter stickers as a mask for my word and peeled them away once my background was dry.

I usually start out the new year with high expectations and a ton of energy and by the end of the year I'm hanging by a thread. I'm determined that this year will be different for me!

Scrap Your Crap DT Call!

Another DT Call - Is it that time already????

Our current DT are still rocking the crap until the end of February but as you all know, we like to keep things cool and stress free. So we give you loads of time to get your application in if you fancy becoming part of our fabulous Design Team.

Are you a hoarder? Do you surround yourself with pretty papers, chipboard, embellishments and continue to add to your stash rather than use it?

Well then you are the prefect crafter to become part of our DT.

Scrap You Crap is looking for four to six team members and ideally we would love to have a good mixture of cardmakers and scrapbookers.

**What do we ask of our Designers?

Just one project per month – due on the 7th as our challenges will go live on the 15th.

Register for our DT forum, where we will be throwing ideas around for future challenges and communicate with each other. We do not ask for gazillions of posts, just a bi-monthly check in

Promote SYC wherever possible, for example on your personal blog, online communities.

Commit to a four month term with the possibility of extending this for another term.

Leave comments on all challenge entries - this is super important and will be monitored

**What do our Designers get in return?

The gratification of having used up all that stash which gathered dust. As the concept of the blog is to make use of the stash you already own, it would be kind of defeating the object to compensate with product, right? And also, this gives you the perfect excuse to go and buy more stash...seeing that you used the old one up for our challenges :)

Designers will have a permanent link to their blog (or homepage) on our site.

If you want to become part of this well-established challenge blog, send an email to: sycchallenges@gmail.com and don’t forget to put SYC DT Call in the subject line.

We would like you to submit three projects (layouts or cards) which you feel represent your style the best but they don’t have to be newly created. You can email us images of stuff you have already done before no need to recreate and keep it a secret. Please DO NOT embed images within your email we require them as attachments only. Please make sure that our pictures are not blurry and of a maximum size of 700 x 700 pixels.

Don’t forget to include a link to your personal blog (if you have one) as we are nosy like that and fancy checking you out...

Internationals are more than welcome and the deadline for this call is February 10th 2012. If accepted, your term runs from March 2012 through to June 2012. No prior DT experience is required.

To celebrate the new year, I'm trying a new technique. I've been crafting more and more with aluminum foil. This altered piece was so fun to put together. I started with a metal lid and ended up with a fabulous hanging for my scrappy space.

I found this older, overlooked photo of my husband on my computer and loved it so much that I had to scrap it! I've been making a lot of my own small letters lately and used them on this page. The title and journaling are song lyrics from "Bushwick Blues" by Delta Spirit, a favorite band of mine. The papers are from older Basic Grey collections, which never seem to go out of style! I've been hoarding them forever and finally decided that it was time to cut into them. It was fun to take a break from girly pages to create this layout about my husband. One of my favorite things about the holiday season are the colored lights that can be seen everywhere. Whether decorating a tree or the outside of a home, twinkling lights always catch my eye. I thought it would be fun to try to capture some of that beautiful colored light in a tag!

Supplies:
2 shipping tags
Patterned paper
Festive embellishments
Overlay or piece of acetate
Stamps
Solvent ink
Alcohol ink
Distress ink
Edge distressor
Paintbrush
Scissors
Kraft knife
Adhesive

Step One: Arrange stamps on a stamp block, apply solvent ink, and carefully press the stamps onto the overlay. Let the image dry.

Step Two: Color the stamped image with alcohol inks.

Step Three: Cover one tag with patterned paper. Measure and cut a window for the stamped overlay into both tags. Center the overlay between the windows of the tags and glue the tags together.

Step Four: Using an edge distressor, lightly distress the edges of the tag and apply Distress ink to the edges of the tag.

Step Five: Add festive embellishments to finish the tag.

I created this layout using Maggi's Molding Paste Tutorial. I tinted my paste with alcohol ink, which gives it the subtle blue-green hue. My husband just turned 30, and feels that time is just flying by! This is a masculine romantic layout and my journaling explains that I'll never have enough time to fully express the love I feel for him.

SNR's 12 Days of Christmas - Day 4

I have been working my way through Roni Johnson's Collage and Altered Art book and have been learning some fabulous techniques! My new favorite is faux paper casting. True paper casting can be costly and time-consuming. Being short on both extra funds and time this holiday season, I was looking for a quick and fun way to embellish my holiday projects. Faux paper casting is a wonderful alternative to true paper casting and yields excellent results!

Supplies:
Facial tissues
Paintbrush
Stamp
Ink
Mist
Mister (filled with water)
ATC
Book page
Cardstock
Glitter
Rhinestones
Punchinella
Scissors
Adhesive

Step One: Place your stamp facing up on your work surface and apply a light coat of ink using a stamp pad. Note: I used a black pigment ink that, when wet and mixed with water, bleeds through the tissue, creating a gorgeous deep green color. Omit the ink from this step for an uncolored impression or heat-set a pigment ink to ensure a waterproof image.

Step Two: Place two sheets of tissue onto the stamp. Mist the tissues with water and use a paintbrush to press the tissue down into all the crevices of the stamp. Repeat this process two or three more times, creating 6-8 layers of tissue. Note: Be sure to use a stomping motion with the paintbrush. Any side-to-side motion may tear the tissues.

Step Three: Gently remove the casting from the stamp and let dry.

Step Four: Apply a book page to an ATC. Trim any excess paper from the edge of the ATC.

Step Five: Place a piece of punchinella over the ATC and press a stamp pad over the ATC until an even coat of ink is applied.

Step Six: Punch several snowflakes from a piece of cardstock using a snowflake punch. Cover each snowflake with glitter and add a rhinestone to the center of each snowflake. Set aside to dry.

Step Seven: Spray a small amount of mist onto the work surface and drag each edge of the ATC through the mist, adding color to the edge of the ATC.

Step Eight: Trim the excess tissue from the casting and gently apply ink to the raised surfaces. Note: For a more distressed edge, rewet the edges of the tissue and gently tear away the excess tissue. If the ink was omitted from Step One, add color as desired.

Step Nine: Add the embellishments to the ATC. Note: I also added a light coat of Iridescent Gold Glimmer Mist for extra sparkle.

Faux paper castings make excellent embellishments for cards, scrapbook layouts and altered art pieces. Castings can also be made with tissue paper, napkins or thin paper towels.

I thought it would be fun to dress up a holiday card like a present for each of my daughters. I made the paper bow using strips of patterned paper from the Nikki Sivils "U R My Favorite" collection. The sentiment cut-out and little pink hearts are from the same paper collection. I'm hoping this little gift will help tide my girls over until the big day. Christmas Emporium Box - Flying Unicorn

I'm preparing for the holiday season and thought it would be great to have some blank cards, envelopes, notecards and tags on hand for unexpected visitors or for quick last minute gift wrapping. The Graphic 45 Christmas Emporium collection has several sheets of images and tags that make assembling cards and gift tags a breeze. As I was working on these items, I also thought that a box to hold my cards and tags would be helpful to keep everything organized and in one spot.

Here is the top of the box. I just love this image of Santa!

To decorate the sides of the box I cut the stamps from patterned paper and trimmed the edges with my postal patterned decorative edge scissors. The wavy sentiment banner on the front of the box is held in place with adhesive foam.

Here are the contents of my box. I grouped the similar items into piles and tied them with twine and ribbon to keep things organized.

Momenta Guest Designer!

I'm so excited to share my Guest Design projects for Momenta today! When I was asked what I would like to work with, two collections were at the top of my list, Family Forever and Back Country. I was thrilled to open my box of goodies and find both collections inside! All of the projects I will be sharing today use supplies from both collections, which coordinate very well.

I love patterned paper and frequently draw my inspiration from printed designs. I like to cut elements from paper to make embellishments for my projects. The colorful leaves featured in the Back Country collection immediately caught my eye and I used them to create a wreath for a layout.

Momenta Supplies: PA-2358, PA-2240, PA-2331, ST-4079, ST-4789, ST-4837, ST-4838, ST-4738, ST-4793

To make this wreath you will need the following supplies:

Leaves cut from 2 sheets of patterned paper

Floral wire

Floral tape

Circle template (I used a bowl)

Needle and thread

Wire cutters

Scissors

Glue

Step 1: Wrap the floral wire around your template, twist the ends together and cut. Note: I used a circle shape, but any shape could be used.

Step 2: Wrap the floral wire with floral tape. Note: The tape covers the sharp ends of the cut wire and will also add strength to the wire frame.

Step 3: Assemble the base of your layout and add a photo. Decide where to place the wire frame for the wreath and stitch it into place using a needle and thread.

Step 4: Glue the leaves around the wire until it is completely covered. Add a title and embellishments to finish the layout.

The same steps can be followed to create a floral vine.

While creating my layouts I noticed that Momenta papers are foiled, glittered and shimmery, and many have a canvas-type feel. With so many great textures to play with I created a mini album that is as fun to touch as it is to look at!

This Melissa Frances Mini Calendar Book is the November off-the-page project from Flying Unicorn. I used the gorgeous 5th Avenue Collection by Melissa Frances to cover and embellish the pages of this book. This book comes with 12 envelopes and 12 monthly dividers. I altered the front and back of each monthly divider in a similar fashion. The divider for September is shown below.

It feels great to have something ready for next year! I plan to add a favorite photo on the back of each monthly divider as well as tuck special keepsakes and journaling into each of the envelopes. Scrap Your Crap Challenge Blog is back! I'm so excited to be a part of the new team and to hopefully inspire you to scrap your crap! Challenge #59 makes use of an element that has been seen on almost everyone's projects this year: mist or spray paint. Many of us crafters have built up an array of mists but only use a fraction of the colors we have. So, we want to see you make use of at least THREE different mists/color sprays.

I used six colors of mist on my layout, all from the Spring 2011 Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist collection. I sprayed my mist down an empty toilet paper roll to make the circles. I created this layout of my new niece Avalynn with my creative team supplies from Flying Unicorn. The pattern on the Authentique "Unique" paper was a bit busy, so I cut all of the patterned pieces from this paper except for the pink polka dot. This paper is very sturdy, so the resulting lattice is strong and would stand up to inking or mist well.

The stamp shaped die-cut is gorgeous and only one of many that coordinate with this collection.

I cut these flowers from patterned paper. I love the texture!

I created this layout using some gorgeous papers from the Riddersholm Chantilly Dawn collection for Flying Unicorn. If you love these papers as much as I do, you'll want to visit the Flying Unicorn Store and pick some up before they sell out!

The purples, ivory and browns in this paper collection are stunning and went well with the photo of my daughter taken last Easter. I used a Prima stencil and some modeling paste to add a textured design element to my page that I then covered with mist, paint and ink. The small brown blooms are also from the Flying Unicorn Store and are the perfect size for rounding out flower clusters or accenting a small bow.

I created this layout for the new inspiration piece at Scrap it with a Song. Instead of an inspirational song, the challenge this week is to use a photo for inspiration. I tried to include the bold colors and patterns of the Grateful Dead poster on my page. I also used some lyrics from the Grateful Dead song "New Speedway Boogie" as the title of this layout. My Uncle posted this photo of the sunset as reflected in his side mirror on facebook and I thought it was just beautiful and perfect for this challenge.

I wanted to try a new floral die and I knew just where to look for my inspiration. Wendy Greenaway makes gorgeous flowers and her Tattered Hibiscus Tutorial helped me make these beautiful blooms for my headband. Her tutorial was really easy to follow. The only elements I changed were the color of my cardstock and mists and my flower center. Once I stitched my flowers to the headband through the flower center, I covered the thread with Distress Stickles.

I love these Fandago Girls from Kanban Crafts! The set comes with two girls, one in lilac and one in green. I thought it would be fun to mix the sets and have girls with both lilac and green skirts. The layers of the skirts are so fun and they really pop off the metallic cardstock.

I assembled this Remember The Moments book from a digital design by Alda Stevens for Flying Unicorn. This book is available for FREE to download! Also available is a four-part You Tube tutorial showing some tips and techniques in creating this book. I made this book for my sister and filled the pages with photos from her wedding. There are plenty of pockets and tags for her to write her own journaling.

This book came together quickly and only required 16 pieces of cardstock and some small pieces of ribbon and lace. There are dozens of tags and images ready to be cut, including flowers, birds, fairies and butterflies. I know I'll be making another book soon! If you haven't stopped by the Flying Unicorn forum yet, this is only one of many inspiring projects!

Scrapbook News and Review Magazine has a wonderful monthly feature called Play Along With Me where staff members pick a tutorial from a recent issue and use it to create a new project. SNR staffer Lucy Chesna shared a tutorial about how to add 3D effects to photos. Lucy shared three different techniques in her tutorial and I really wanted to try them all! I usually use adhesive foam to raise fussy cut elements on my layouts, but I have never applied the same process to a photo. I cut pieces from several photos and used adhesive foam to assemble my photo pieces to create a multi-layered photo. The photo on the above layout has three layers. This technique was easy and fun and a great way to use up extra copies of my favorite photos. I also love the dimension it added to my layout!

If you love learning new techniques but are short on time, this feature is great to follow because you get two different inspiring projects using the same technique as well as design notes and helpful tips from two designers. If you don't have a subscription to SNR Magazine it's a great time to subscribe! There are several exciting things happening before the end of the year including a project-packed double issue that will be released in two parts, October 30th and November 13th! If you're looking for a special Christmas gift for a fellow scrapper, a subscription to SNR Magazine will be sure to put a smile on their face!

There is a new song on the play list at Scrap It With A Song, "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" by Bryan Adams. I was 10 years old when the film "Robin Hood" was released, and boy did I have a crush on Kevin Costner after seeing the movie! I also loved the song "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" for the film by Bryan Adams, so I bought the sheet music for piano and learned how to play it. I still have the sheet music, so I scanned and printed a copy of the first page and used that for the base of my layout. I didn't think I could love anyone more than my husband, but then I had two beautiful girls. Everything I do, I do for them. I used the title of the song for the title of this page and also used some of the song lyrics in my journaling.
