About Me

My name is Dana Tatar and I am a scrapbook and mixed media artist who likes to play with paper and scissors. I was a biochemist before I decided to stay home full-time with my daughters and my analytical mind is always present when I'm crafting. I really enjoy playing with wet media; mixing things together, heating and drying things out, and trying to find creative uses for products.

I have had many hobbies over the years, but art is the one that really gives me satisfaction. I started my adventure in art with scrapbooking, as a way to preserve memories after the birth of my first daughter. I have expanded my areas of interest since then and have grown to love the creative outlet that art provides.

What am I working on right now?
I'm currently designing, or guest designing, for several teams! I love to try new things and stretch myself as an artist. I am fortunate to be able to work with a fantastic variety of materials, which helps ensure that no matter what mood I'm in I'll have something that catches my eye, and oftentimes short, attention span.

How does my work differ from others in my genre?
I have an eclectic style in terms of what and how I design. Once day I could be working with crushed egg shells and bold colors of mist and the next I could be creating a shabby layout with pretty patterned papers, lace and flowers. Maybe this is how I differ from other artists. If you are looking for a consistent body of work in a signature style you won't find that here! In truth, I've never been concerned with labels or tried too hard to fit in to a certain group. I'm happy to just do my own thing.

Why do I create?
I started my journey into the craft world after the birth of my first daughter as a way to preserve memories. I had an almost obsessive need to document every moment and milestone. Having a second daughter a little more than a year later forced me to reevaluate the high and unrealistic expectations I set for myself. There are only so many hours in the day! Over time I started to create less traditional scrapbook layouts and began to explore other forms of art. What started out as a memory keeping expedition has transformed into artistic expression that I need to do, mostly for my own enjoyment.

How does my creative process work?
I'm greatly inspired by song lyrics, quotes from my favorite authors, and pop culture references. Often times I'll hear or read a verse that I relate to and immediately want to run to my studio to create. I'm a huge introvert, so my artwork is a way to connect with my favorite artists while remaining in the comfort of my own home.
