I created a canvas book box for this hop. I love working with canvas and thought it would be fun to attach two canvases together to create an assemblage project.
To begin, I selected a bright color palette of Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I primed the canvases by first spritzing them with water. Then I applied several colors of mist.
Stamping on canvas and getting a crisp image can be tricky. Instead of stamping directly on the canvas, I used the small circles stamp from the Big Textures Cling Stamp Set with Jet Black Archival Ink to stamp onto a piece of Tissuestock. Tissuestock is just like tissue paper, but thicker and more robust. I tore the stamped Tissuestock into pieces and attached them to the canvas with matte medium.
I applied molding paste over a stencil onto the canvases to add another layer of texture. There is no need to allow the canvas to dry between these steps. Layering wet medium on top of each other is OK! If you prefer a brilliant white stenciled design, allow the canvas to dry fully before applying molding paste to prevent color absorption of the mist.
I borrowed hinges from an old box and used them to attach the two canvases together.
I added a clasp to the opposite side of the canvases, mostly for decoration. I have this piece on display open so that the inside is visible.
I embellished the front and back of the canvases with white feather Architextures stickers and the word "nest."
I framed the inside of the book box, which were once the back side of the canvases, with decorative ribbon. I glued a Clip Art image of a bird into each window and then filled some of the space with flowers and natural embellishments.
