Mixed Media Christmas Scrapbook Layout with Silver Glitter Stars and Red Flowers

I used the Snow is Glistening Seasonal Series Clique Kit for both of my projects today. This festive kit features the My Mind's Eye Yuletide collection, which is a fantastic mix of modern and traditional holiday patterns and imagery. I added additional color, texture, and layers with fabulous mediums and vintage book pages from Bad Girls Couture. I had a lot of fun layering neutral colors, white, black, and cream, and then sprinkling in bright red, green, and glittery silver accents.

Patterned Paper Holly Leaves with Glass Bead Gel and Glass Glitter

I topped layers of patterned paper, die-cuts, vintage book pages, and cardstock, with patterned paper leaves and holly berries, and paper flowers. To add a frosty finish to my paper leaves, I mixed together Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Glass Bead Gel Mixed Media Medium and Clique Kits Glass Glitter, and spread the medium over the leaves. This sparkly media really catches the light!

Silver Glitter Corrugated Paper Star with Green Cheer Cardstock Sticker

I cut several stars from the silver corrugated glitter paper included in the kit to add a simple holiday shape to my design. I topped the star shown above with a cardstock sticker. I added a pop of red around the silver and green embellishments with Bad Girls Couture Torrid Haute Mess Mixed Media Acrylic Paint.

Die-Cut and Tag Journaling Spot with Silver Glitter Corrugated Paper Star

I created a small journaling spot for my page by layering die-cuts, cardstock stickers, corrugated paper shapes, and flowers.

Mixed Media Christmas Scrapbook Layout with Silver Glitter Stars and Red Flowers

I was reflecting on my favorite Christmas memories after creating my layout. I always look forward to snuggling up with my family and watching Christmas movies together. There are several films that we all enjoy together. I used those movies as inspiration for my art journal. I used the Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Kraft Art Journal Booklet for the base of this project. This booklet is LIMITED EDITION, so pick one up for yourself while you can!

The Grinch is my favorite Christmas character so I used him as the focal point of the cover of my booklet. Do I have a resting Grinch face? Maybe!

I'll share a secret with you. I can't draw. I don't let that stop me from incorporating images in my art. I started with a free coloring book page and some cardstock. I traced the Grinch face onto my journal and the hat onto cardstock using carbon paper. After a little cutting, pasting, and outlining with marker, I had a fun embellishment that looks hand-drawn. I used Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Fallen Angel Mixed Media Acrylic Paint to color the trim of the hat. I sprinkled Clique Kits Glass Glitter onto the wet paint to add a touch of sparkle. (Keep scrolling for a complete art journal page tutorial detailing how to use coloring book pages to create paper pieced embellishments.)

I added thin layers of pattern and color with BGC vintage book pages, cardstock stickers and washi tape from the kit, and Clique Kits seam binding ribbon. I sewed small bells onto the ribbon binding so that my journal will sound as festive as it looks.

National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is one of my favorite holiday movies. It doesn't really feel like Christmas until I watch this. There are a lot of great one-liners in this film. I chose a more general Christmas quote for this page. I used stamps to add the text around my paper pieced station wagon.

Edward Scissorhands Christmas Mixed Media Art Journal Page with Handwritten Quote and Snowflakes

Edward Scissorhands is another film near the top of my holiday play list. I'm a huge fan of all Tim Burton and Johnny Depp collaborations, but I especially love that Edward is a misunderstood artistic soul in this film. I think we can all relate to that! I used a simple clipart image of scissors as my focal point and wrote a quote from the movie onto the spread.

Home Alone Quote Mixed Media Christmas Art Journal Page with Stenciled Molding Paste Snowflakes

I've lost count of the times that I have enjoyed Home Alone. I added colored a Merry Christmas die-cut from the kit with green marker to add some color to this page. The Thickers alphabet from the kit adds some fun foam texture to the page. I added snowflakes to the background using a die-cut negative and Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Molding Paste Mixed Media Medium. I sprinkled the wet snowflakes with Clique Kits Glass Glitter. I outlined the snowflakes with black marker once they were dry to help them pop.

Rudolph Art Journal Page Tutorial

Last, but certainly not least, I was inspired by Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. I had a lot of fun creating this layered page!

To begin, use a dry paintbrush to spread Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Fallen Angel Mixed Media Acrylic Paint and Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Grunge Mixed Media Acrylic Paint onto a page of the Bad Girls Couture Haute Mess Kraft Art Journal Booklet. Next, glue vintage book page strips onto the page. Add strips of washi tape to the page once the wed media is dry.

Select a free coloring book image of Rudolph for a paper pieced embellishment. Resize the image and print. Trace portions of the image onto Bad Girls Couture vintage book pages and cardstock and/or patterned paper from the kit using carbon paper. Cut out each portion of the design.

Assemble the Rudolph. Highlighting select area of the paper embellishment with marker and ink will help add dimension. Tie a piece of seam binding ribbon and a bell around Rudolph's neck. Tuck paper die-cuts, cardstock stickers, and paper flowers around the paper pieced Rudolph embellishment.

Outline Rudolph with a contrasting color of marker. Hand write the names of friends onto the Santa's List die-cut. All the artists on this hop are definitely on Sant's Nice List!
