Hi! I created this art journal spread for the More Than Words October Main Challenge. The challenge this month is to create an art journal page using the word inspiration WRITE and the creative inspiration of MAGAZINE PAGES. I jotted down this Virginia Woolf quote a couple months ago and it feels good to get it into my art journal! To fulfill the challenge I used magazine pages for the base of my spread and chose to write by hand into the journal.
I was thrilled to find this dictionary page in the art journal I purchased from Rae Missigman! I thought the cosmic definition paired perfectly with my Virginia Woolf quote using the words clouds and stars. I doodled around the word cosmic with a black pen and then used yellow watercolor paint to highlight the text.
I prepped the book page base with gesso and then added watercolor paints that reminded me of a night sky. Once the paint was dry I applied blue dye ink over the
Small Stars Stencil from Creative Embellishments. I then added cloud outlines to the page using the
Cloud Border Stencil from Creative Embellishments.
I used dye ink and the Small Star Stencil a second time to add yellow stars to a magazine page that I tore from an issue of Somerset Studio. The watercolor circle print was already part of my journal. I added the rows of small stars along the right side of that page with a stamp and orange dye ink. I applied several puffy star stickers to the pages to add some dimension to my design.
I finished the pages by doodling a black line border. If you'd like to join the fun, stop by the More Than Words Challenge Blog and upload your work before the end of the month.

Dana, your art journal spread is amazing! The Virginia Woolf quote and the cosmic definition are perfect for each other, and I especially like the way you portrayed your star "riding through the clouds!" Thanks so much for joining us at More Than Words this month. YAY!!!!!

DeleteLove it Dana, I love that you used a quote from Virginia Woolf, and a page from Somerset Studio. I love those magazines but they are so expensive to get here now, so I rarely get a print one, opting for an e-mag instead. Love all the little bits and pieces you added by hand, and the underlining of the words. Thanks for joining us at More Than Words - Elle xx
