Stick Bound Kenya Travel Album - Clique International

 

Hi! I'm sharing the travel album I created using the Limited Edition World Heritage Africa Mosi-Oa-Tunya Kit for Clique International. My daughter traveled to Kenya for 10 days this summer with her 8th grade science class. I wish I could have gone with her because she had an absolutely amazing time. I created this album in the most eco-friendly way possible, just like the women artisans would have in the villages my daughter visited. I think I was able to capture the essence of her trip in a unique way.

I picked up this stick during my annual lake vacation a couple of summers ago and I'm so glad I finally found a fun use for it! I used several colors of paint to decorate the stick, which is holding the album pages together. Instead of trimming away the top edge of the 6x6 patterned paper, I scored it to aid in the turning of the album pages, and then punched holes in it for binding. I threaded twine through the punched holes on both sides of the top edge of the papers. I repurposed a fabric bag tie from an embellishment kit (Clique International uses as much eco-friendly packaging as possible) and wrapped it around the stick and through the triangular hole used to hang 6x6 paper pads.

I embellished the front cover using chipboard letters from my stash that I colored with Hero Arts Metallic Gold Ink. I placed the gold letters onto the African continent that I cut from a piece of patterned paper from the A Contre Courant Sampler Kit.

I decorated the bottom edge of the cover using metallic die-cuts, chipboard, and a butterfly from the Mosi-Oa-Tunya Kit. I felt like the black and white background print lacked definition, so I used a Distress Marker to color the edge of the cover for contrast.

I used die-cuts, chipboard, butterflies, and enamel dots from the kit to embellish the album pages in a minimalist fashion. I wanted the focus to remain on the stunning photos.

This country is absolutely beautiful!
