Hi! I'm sharing a slow stitch fabric book that I created for Clique International today. When I found the Upcycled Sari Scraps in the shop, I knew I wanted to make something special to celebrate the beautiful pieces of fabric in all their embellished, embroidered, and sequined glory. I'm a tactile crafter, so this book was fun to assemble and is an absolute joy to flip through. In addition to the colorful fabric, I was also inspired by these words by Junot Diaz: "The whole culture is telling you to hurry, while art tells you to take your time. Always listen to the art." I am not a frequent stitcher, and I love that this project forced me to slow down and to be present for the process.
I added more stitching to the sari fabric pages, as well as some buttons, beads, and sequins to the fabrics that were less embellished. I was working with scraps, so I pieced some pages together when the fabric was not large enough to cover the page, with the idea that nothing would go to waste.
Here's a peek inside the book:
I stitched a Fair-Trade Pom Pom Dangle to the spine of the book to add a fun pop of color to the otherwise plain cover.
