Non-Traditional Back-to-School Scrapbook Layout Created with the Basic Grey Recess Collection and Stamps Stencils Wood Veneer and Chipboard from Creative Embellishments

Hi! I'm sharing the scrapbook layout I created for the Creative Embellishments January Challenge. The challenge is to take inspiration from at least one element from the challenge photo with a twist of adding lace or other material.

Creative Embellishments January 2021 Challenge Inspiration Photo

The first design element to catch my eye was the caning on the back of the chairs. I included a piece of that and also followed the color palette from the photo, neutrals with pops of reds, greens, and gold. I've had this non-traditional school photo of my niece for years and this challenge gave me the inspiration I needed to get it scrapped. For this non-traditional school photo I used the most non-traditional paper collection in my stash, the Basic Grey Recess line. I think it works!

How to Use Stamps and Ink to Add Patterns to Scrapbook Paper

The base patterned paper had several cursive letter designs mixed into the print. I decided to play up this element by adding more numbers and letters using the Cursive Alphabet Stamp and the Number Border Stamp with black ink.

How to Add Texture to a Scrapbook Layout Using Chipboard and Stencils

I spread molding paste over the Typewriter Keys Stencil to add a second layer letters. Once the paste was dry, I applied a bright blue chalk ink over the top to help the texture stand out from the background. I trimmed the edges from the Lacy Border Chipboard, colored them with red mist, and secured the decorative pieces to two corners of the page.

How to Add Textured Layers to a Scrapbook Layout Using Chipboard and Wood Veneer

I added the Distressed Punchinella Chipboard, painted with bright yellow acrylic paint, under the photo. I thought it was similar in shape to the piece of caning I used. I painted a pair of Autumn Leaves Wood Veneer a bright green and topped it with a burgundy flower. I tucked a small calendar page, floral print patterned paper and a journaling sticker under the layers of chipboard.

How to Use Lace to Add Texture to a Scrapbook Layout

Here's my twist element, a piece of neutral lace.

How to Use Stickers to Create a Title For a Scrapbook Layout

I added a simple sentiment sticker to the bottom corner of the page to finish the layout.
