Halloween Watchlist Mini Album + Art Journal - Brutus Monroe

Hi! I'm sharing the Halloween Watchlist Mini Album that I put together for the month of October for Brutus Monroe today. I'm documenting a month of Halloween movie watching with this project for the fourth year running.

I used Brutus Monroe Lightweight Surface Board to create the covers and spine of this album. After I cut the panels and painted the pieces with Black Gesso, I used book binding tape to connect the front and back covers to the spine. A recent shipment of scrappy goodies was sealed with this fabulous jack-o-lantern packaging tape. I carefully removed the tape from the box with a little help from my heat tool and wrapped the spine of this album with the tape. I added patterned paper from the Bloodmoon Manor 6x6 Paper Pad to both sides of the front and back covers.

I created two movie themed signatures plus a 24-page art journal inspired by some of my favorite horror films using brown and black packing paper. The long continuous sheets of paper were perfect for cutting down to size and folding in half to make the pages of this album. I used a simple pamphlet stitch to secure the signatures together and to the album spine. The wonderful crinkle of the paper pages that happens when I flip through the album is a fun sensory bonus!

I created a table of contents with a stamped title using my favorite Marquee Sentiments Stamp Set and various colors of cardstock for contrast. The list this year is made up of a mix of classic horror, some of my favorite scary movies, and selections from my teenager.

I added movie scenes to stamped televisions for each 2-page spread that features a synopsis of the film and, after viewing, my review and rating. I used the Deco Numbers Mixed Media Stencil to add the days of the month to every other page for a pop of color.

I had so much fun playing with Brutus Monroe products to fill the art journal pages that are inspired by some of my favorite horror films. Not every product was intended for use in a scary project, but there are so many versatile designs that it was easy to combine the Monroe Manor Halloween themed items with everyday products from my Brutus Monroe stash to celebrate some iconic movie lines on the page.

Day One of Brutus Monroe Stencilpalooza featured a Campfire A2 Layering Stencil that paired perfectly with the Cauldron Card Panel Digital Cut File and some lines from "Macbeth." I used the Cauldron Card Panel as a stencil and cut every piece on this page out of cardstock by hand. I used 3D foam adhesive to add dimension to the design and Glow in the Dark Glitter Glaze and Topaz Flat Back Crystals to add shimmer.

The Ethereal Manor Creative Cards inspired me to create this "Beetlejuice" spread. I thought the girl looked just like the character Lydia played by Winona Ryder. I primed the black paper with White Gesso and then used stencils and stamps to add interest to the background. The bottom of the page features foiled spider web acetate from the Creepy Borders Acetate Set.

The girls from two different sets of Creative Cards inspired this page. I think horror and comedy go so well together. I cut the girls from the cards and arranged them across the stenciled pages before stamping a line from "The Craft." This is one movie that I watch every year that I think really holds up.

I was born in the 1980's and I think "Ghostbusters" was one of the best horror films of the decade. This movie is another example of a fantastic mix of horror and comedy. I don't have a common name, so this movie gets bonus points for having a strong female lead named Dana! I had a lot of fun creating a ghost-filled window using Ghastly Frames Acetate and the Ghost Simple Blend Stencil. Many of the ghosts in the film were surround by a green glow, and I brought in that element using Lime Deco Foil. (All the acetate panels are foilable!) I was thrilled to finally find a use for the Phone Home Chipboard set that I purchased earlier in the year for the second page of this spread with some lyrics from the theme song of the movie.

As soon as I saw the Death's-Head Hawkmoth Panel in the Jeepers Creepers Duofoil Sheet Set I knew I had to celebrate one of my favorite movies of all time, "Silence of the Lambs." I have a preserved Death's-Head Hawkmoth on the shelf next to my desk. I think nature is so beautiful, even when it's a little creepy. I was inspired by the moth and floral design of the Duofoil Sheet and created my own gold embossed floral and moth page using stamps. I stamped the iconic line spoken by Hannibal Lecter and then outlined the letters with a red paint pen. I finished the page with Santa's Suit Shimmer Splash. You don't eat with Hannibal without a bit of spatter!

This 2-pager was inspired by the film "American Psycho." Patrick's love for Huey Lewis and the News lightens what is otherwise a pretty gruesome scene. I brought out the Electronic Icons Stamp Set and the Rainbow Boombox Cutting Dies for this nostalgic design. The Creepy Borders Acetate and the Shades of Red Deco Foil Sheets were a great pairing to represent this bloody plastic-wrapped scene in the movie.

You still won't catch me saying Candyman five times! This movie was probably the most terrifying for me as a child, and it still scares me. I used the new bee-themed products from the Create Your Own Ending Event, the Honey Drip Cutting Dies from the Pooh release, and the older Honeycomb Mixed Media Stencil to create this spread. It's a sweet page unless you've seen the movie!

This is one of my favorite pages in this art journal. I usually say that the book is better than the movie, but in this case, this iconic line wasn't a part of the book, which is a shame. Romance and horror are such a great combination, and vampires always bring the heat! I started with the Damask Mixed Media Stencil, which is one of my all-time favorite designs. I cut this gentleman from the Ethereal Manor Creative Card Set to represent Dracula and then added a red foiled bat panel from the Ghastly Frames Acetate Set. I stamped the words for the page using the Marquee Sentiments Stamp Set and then added a fun set of fangs to the upper left corner using an old Brutus Monroe Halloween stamp. I created the blood-tipped fangs using glue and red foil. Just wait for the glue to dry and then press the foil, color side up, onto the glue to transfer the color. If you're a Dracula fan and want more, I highly recommend the film "Dracula Untold" starring Luke Evans.

These pages were inspired by the movie "Halloween." I foiled a Vintage X-Ray Acetate pumpkin for the page on the left. I used the Split Personalities A2 Layering Stencil Set from Stencilpalooza Day 13 for the page on the right to create a jack-o-lantern that is more sinister. I love a good slasher film!

I'm a Michigan State University Alumni, so this film about MSU student Ash Williams, the third installment of the Evil Dead franchise "Army of Darkness," had me right away! Ash Williams must correctly recite this phrase in order to safely retrieve the Necronomicon, or the Book of the Dead, and also recite it again to travel back to his time period. Both times the pronunciation was mangled and resulted in unexpected outcomes. Cue the dark comedy! I took a Science Fiction Film class for my senior seminar in college, so I know that this line is originally from the 1951 film "The Day The Earth Stood Still." I highly recommend this classic film about an alien visitor and his robot who come to Earth to share an important message to the human race. The gorgeous color panels that I used on these pages are from the Haunted Hills Duofoil Sheets. I added some stamped bats, stenciled stars to the night sky, and a chipboard tombstone.

I hope I'm not ruining the sweet Birthday Bear A2 Stencil for anyone with these pages! Stephen King is a master of this genre, so I had to include one of his movies. I can hear Pennywise saying this line from the film "It." I used Santa's Suit Shimmer Splash to color the stenciled balloon. The pop of yellow on the letters symbolizes Georgie's yellow raincoat. I kept this page simple because clowns are terrifying!

Jeff Daniels and John Goodman are fantastic in the movie "Arachnophobia" that had me scared to take a shower for the longest time. I still check the bathroom for spiders over 30 years after seeing this film! I paired the Webs Duofoil Sheets with the spiderweb frames from the Creepy Borders Acetate set to create this page full of spiders. I used the No Place Like Halloween Stamp Set to add the large spider to the page on the right.

There's nothing like a man-eating great white shark to ruin a beach vacation! Is "Jaws" one of the reasons I don't like swimming in water I can't see through? Maybe, LOL. I used the Make Waves Chipboard Set across the bottom of this page. I used two colors of blue paint markers to color the chipboard and then added a layer of April Showers Glitter Glaze to mimic the sun shining off of the water. I cut a shark fin from gray cardstock and placed it on the page so that it just peaks out of the waves. Can you hear the ominous music playing in your head?
