If you think you know who inspired me or if you could use some inspiration of your own, stop by France on the {SAS}sy Scrap Around the World Tour at Scrap Attack Scrapbooking. There are 7 inspirational pieces in all, dating from the 15th -19th centuries. If you are able to correctly identify the French artists or if you use any of the pieces as inspiration for a layout of your own, you will earn one ticket in the prize drawing for a $20 gift certificate to the Scrap Attack Scrapbooking Store!

The {SAS}sy Scrap Around the World Tour is in France!

Supplies:
Paper: Prima
Flowers: Prima
Pearls & Crystals: Prima
Tools: Quilled Creations Beginner Quilling Kit
Ink: Clearsnap

Bonjour! The fourth stop on Scrap Attack Scrapbooking's Scrap Around The World Tour is France! The French challenge is to create a layout or 2 cards using a paper rolling technique called quilling.

Here is some background information from Wikipedia: Quilling or paper filigree is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is wound around a quill to create a basic coil shape. The paper is glued at the tip and the coil shaped, these shaped coils are arranged to form flowers, leaves, and various ornamental patterns similar to ironwork. During the Renaissance, French and Italian nuns and monks used quilling to decorate book covers and religious items. The paper most commonly used was strips of paper trimmed from the gilded edges of books. These gilded paper strips were then rolled to create the quilled shapes. Quilling often imitated the original ironwork of the day.

You do not need any special tools or papers to quill, although a quilling set which includes a circle sizer ruler, a slotted tool, a needle tool, fine-tip tweezers, a glue pen and 1/8" quilling paper, will make quilling less difficult. Several flower patterns require only the use of pins and a cork board. I found a fabulous webpage called Inna's Creations that features several quilling tutorials and fantastic pieces that I used for inspiration.

Everyone who completes this challenge by midnight PST on April 30th, 2010 will earn a ticket for the prize drawing to win a $20 gift certificate to the Scrap Attack Scrapbooking Store!

The journaling is from an old Irish Poem called "Dedication" by Patrick MacGill; "I speak of the old women who danced to yesterday's fiddle and dance no longer." This bear was made from one of my Great-Grandmother's dresses after she passed, which is an Irish tradition. This is the only thing I have that belonged to her. I have a couple memories of her and only a handful of photos, so this bear is very special to me.

Join the XOXO Girls in their sixth challenge! Your challenge is to scraplift one of the Team O layouts (make sure to let us know who you scraplifted). To enter the challenge simply leave a comment with a link to the direct post where we can find your scraplift creation. For an even greater chance at winning you may scraplift more than one of the Team O layouts.

The XOXO Girls will be picking the monthly winner and this month our sponsor is Generations Crafting. Generations Crafting has donated a Bo Bunny Kit as Blog Candy for the March Rebel of the Month!

The XOXO Girls' February Creations were scraplifted 25 times last month! We know it's hard, but if you could help us out with the voting process by choosing 1 Rebel out of these choices we would be very greatful! Just leave a comment with your #1 pick. Good luck to all the Rebels!
