Kindred Spirits - Mojo Monday

Paper: Urban Swank
Chipboard: Chatterbox

I'm really starting to love Monday's because I get a fresh does of inspiration from the Mojo Monday challenge at Creative Soup. This week the challenge is to incorporate 3 of the following things I love into one project: texture, the color yellow, woodland creatures, retro kitch, doilies, the color green and sewing.  This was such a fun challenge.  Stop by the Mojo Monday forum at Creative Soup to see the rest of the creative team projects.

Love Birds

 Cardstock: Bazzill
 Patterned Paper: Pink Paislee
 Letters: American Crafts
 Artisan Elements: Pink Paislee
 Cardstock Stickers: Pink Paislee

I've been having fun changing up the size of my layouts and have grown fond of the 8 1/2 by 11 size.  I like that I still have plenty of room to embellish my page while keeping the focus on the photo.  This is my daughter Claire's first kiss from a boy at age 2!  This cute little boy was the ring bearer at my brother's wedding and had a little crush on Claire.  I really love the way this page turned out, especially since I mistakenly printed the photo on the wrong side of my photo paper.  I was surprised when my photo came out looking like a watercolor painting, but I think the finish is pretty cool.  Sometimes mistakes are a good thing!

Time To Celebrate - Kanban Crafts

Kanban Supplies:
YJPCT004 - Burlesque Paper Craft Toppers
SCR9035 - Burlesque - Strong Scarlet
PCT9558 - Gingham Sentiments Blue

Other Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill
Leaves: Petaloo
Gold Pen: Y&C

I finally found the perfect papers to scrap my senior prom photo! If you couldn't tell from my dress, the movie Titanic was popular at the time. I had to have a dress like Kate Winslet wore in the movie and I think I came pretty close.  This stunning layered die-cut from Kanban Crafts reminded me of my dress and was the perfect embellishment to this page. I think the piece adds a touch of elegance and it took me less than five minutes to assemble!

The die-cut layers to this piece are all pre-cut.  Just separate each piece from the cardstock sheet and place some adhesive foam between the pieces to create a fabulous layered embellishment that creates a dramatic effect.  No fancy cutting machine required!  Just like the Kanban papers, this die-cut figure is detailed with foiled accents.

I cut these beautiful roses from a piece of embossed cardstock from the Kanban Burlesque collection.  I love the high-shine glossy finish!

I'm really starting to love Monday's because I get a fresh does of inspiration from the Mojo Monday challenge at Creative Soup. This week the challenge is to use yellow, turquoise and gray on your project. These colors are all over and really in for spring.

Who knew that a giraffe's tongue is almost as long as its neck?  Not me!  This was quite the surprise during my last trip to the zoo.  It was really fun to get close to such a beautiful animal and I can't wait to go back!

Free ATC

 Stamp: Glitz Design
 Pearls: Kaisercraft
 Ink: Ranger
 Multi-Medium; Ranger
 Miscellaneous: Book Pages, Paint
Song Lyrics: Slaves and Bulldozers Chris Cornell

I had a ton of fun making this ATC!  I'm slowly combining more techniques on my mixed media projects.  This ATC has a book page collage background, stamping and a little watercolor paint.  I think this beautiful stamp by Glitz Design is perfect for Spring and went well with some Chris Cornell song lyrics that I found to be inspiring.

If you would like to start creating more mixed media projects, Scrapbook News and Review Magazine has wonderful step-by-step tutorials, both on their front page and inside each issue of the magazine, at a variety of skill levels.  Join the Mixed Media group and share you work and don't forget to submit your projects for a real chance at getting published!

Friendship - Kanban Crafts

Kanban Supplies:
SCR9003 - Floral Frame - Blue
SCR9006 - Damask Rose - Blue
PCT9953 - Tranquil Waters - Sky
PCT9484 - Spring Diecut Flowers - Aqua
PCT9831- You're A Winner
DBPCT091 - Daisy

Other Supplies:
Stencil: Tattered Angels

The pretty blues and greens of these Kanban Crafts papers went perfectly with this photo I took of my girls at our favorite Florida State Park, Eden Gardens.  They love the large pond on the grounds and had a lot of fun looking for fish.  The trees and flowers that decorate the part landscape were my inspiration for this page.  I used a Tattered Angels Glimmer Screen as a steil to make the tree that frame my photo.  The beautiful foiled details on the Kanban papers really help make the flowers pop.

I created this layout for the May {SAS}sy Inspiration Challenge at Scrap Attack Scrapbooking. You know you’re a scrapbooker when you take everyday things and draw inspiration from them to create a layout. For this challenge, we will be using everyday items like magazine ads, clothing, food packaging or word prompts as our source of inspiration.

The challenge this week is to use the advertisement shown below as inspiration for your layout. You are free to adapt it to any size you prefer – just have fun with it! (Your finished product should resemble the ad.) You can use any supplies you want. Have fun, mix it up, rotate the sketch and add embellishments…whatever makes you happy.

All participants of this challenge will be entered into a random drawing for an extra 10% off coupon to the Scrap Attack Scrapbooking Store! Entries are due by midnight PST on Friday 5/27/11. A winner will be drawn sometime on Saturday. Please feel free to upload your work to the INSPIRATION Challenge section of the Creative Gallery and link your image to the {SAS}sy Blog.

Reverse Sketch based on a layout by Jan Tatomir

Scrapbook News and Review Magazine has sketches in every issue created by talented staffers. Sketches are used by the staff designers either exactly as is, altered in a fun way or interpreted in a certain design style. Every month one staff layout is selected and a sketch is made based on that layout.  The result is something we call a reverse sketch. This is my take on the reverse sketch based on Jan's fabulous layout for the April Issue. If you love working with sketches, this section of the magazine is sure to offer plenty of inspiration. The May issue is now available!

This is a photo of my husband John and I that was taken way back in 1999 at my family cottage on Lake Huron.  I'm sharing this layout today because I'm on my way back to Michigan for a vacation and will be walking down this beach in a couple of days!  I have a lot of great memories from my time spent at our cottage that include long walks on the beach, the sound of the waves, shell collecting and camp fires.  I used some Crakle paint on the chipboard for my title and brushed it with some Distress ink.  I think the letters look just like a perfectly toasted marshmallow.  Yum!

Flower Girl

 Paper: Pink Paislee
Doilies: Hallmark
 Flowers: Prima
Leaves: Prima
Butterflies: Prima
 Ribbon: Dritz
Rhinestone Flourishes: Zva Creative
Mist: Tattered Angels
Tools: Cuttlebug, Baby Face Alphabet Dies

Each month Scrapbook News and Review Magazine has a Scrap Your Stash call. April's call was flowers.  My daughter Claire was a flower girl in my brother's wedding and this is one of my favorite photos from that day.  There are flowers in and around my photo.  I also used paper flowers to make my letters.  I glued paper flowers to a piece of cardstock and once dry, used my Cuttlebug and Baby Face Alphabet Dies to cut flower covered letters for this page.

SNR's June Scrap Your Stash call is brads and eyelets.  We wouldn’t be surprised if you have oodles of these little gems hanging out in your stash and we challenge you to use them in cool and creative ways! For this call, please only submit layouts that feature brads and eyelets.  You have until May 21st to submit your layouts!

I've been scrapping some older photos lately.  This picture was taken while I was pregnant with my second daughter Scarlett.  She's almost three years old now!  I have no idea where the time has gone.  Claire was so excited to become a big sister.  I'm so happy that my girls get along most of the time.  After seeing this layout, Claire, who is 4 1/2, has been asking how she got inside my tummy and how she got out, LOL.  A conversation for another day!

PCT9558 - Gingham Sentiments Blue

Doily: Details

I'm having a great time designing with my Kanban Crafts supplies!  Kanban Crafts makes gorgeous card kits, my favorite being the Floral Pink Card from the stunning Shabby Chic Ruby/Pink collection.  All the flowers and leaves on this page were cut from one piece of paper!  I love the three shades of pink flowers.  Kanban's product lines are designed with perfectly coordinating pieces, but the collections also mix well.  I used pieces from three different collections on this page!

The sentiment cards are a wonderful way to add some printed journaling to your projects.  I always struggle with what to write and this card made journaling so much easier for me!  I love the foiled stitching!

Stickles: Ranger
Paint: Tulip
Miscellaneous: Beads, Ribbon

Creative Soup's Grand Re-Opening Gala is underway! The crop is going on thru Sunday night and we also have live chats, prizes, games and plenty of challenges!  My favorite part about attending a party is deciding what to wear and accessorizing. I do not feel ready to wow without a little bling. For my challenge I want you to "dress up" your project and use supplies that you have altered, embellished or otherwise made pretty.  I had a ton of fun dressing up this fabulous paper by Glitz Design!  My daughter Scarlett also loves bling.  I took this photo of her after a Mardi Gras parade.  She thought the free beads were the best part of the parade!  The Creative Soup Team would love to see how you interpret this or any of the other challenges that will be offered during the crop.  Happy scrapping!

Creative Soup's Get Messy! - Lesson One

Welcome to Get Messy! a free class brought to you by Creative Soup. Over the next two weeks, we are going to be learning how to incorporate artsy supplies as well as different artsy techniques into our every day scrapbooking. This class is totally free and available at Creative Soup. Creative Soup offers a free class each quarter, new challenges each Monday, as well as great inspiration throughout the week!

I have had these two boxes for over a year and had always planned on altering them in some way. When K mentioned her class, I immediately thought of these boxes. I have been wanting to try more mixed media techniques and I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to play with some new supplies as well as items that I have been collecting but have never used. I bought two boxes, one for each of my girls. I loved the boxes as they were, and only added some flowers and dew drops to each cover. I inked the edges of each box with Distress ink and stamped the first initial for my daughter's on the binding of each box with Staz-on ink.

Claire's Box

Scarlett's Box

Join me to learn how to make what I am keeping inside! There are several other fabulous projects being featured in this class, something for each scrappy style. You won't want to miss out!
